White Spirit (Solvents)

Solvent refers to both a class of specialty refined products and hydrocarbon streams that are used in extraction processes in the refinery.

The term derives from Latin, meaning roughly “loosen.” In chemistry, solvents –which are generally in liquid form– are used to dissolve, suspend, or extract other materials, usually without chemically changing either the solvents or the other materials.

 

White Spirit or Mineral Spirits also known as solvent Naphtha (petroleum), Varsol, Stoddard Solvent is a petroleum-derived clear liquid used as a common organic solvent or fractions.

 

A Light Hydrocarbon with a distillation range of 130-198ºC is used as a solvent in different industries.

 

White spirit is a specialty refined product in the Naphtha boiling range. It has a variety of uses including as an extraction solvent, a cleaner (paint thinner), or a degreaser. It is a common solvent in paints, lacquers, varnishes, aerosols, and asphalts.
